Replica Flags for Lineol Flag Bearer

The Lineol company have produced a variety of flags especially for the 7 cm series. While flags for German military figures are relatively common and inexpensive to find, flags for foreign figures and especially political organizations appear much less frequently. No wonder that there are also more or less well made replicas for these flags, so that flag bearers who have lost their original flag can be equipped with them. Lineol replicas

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was a slew of reproductions, especially to Lineol's rare foreign spray painted flags. Some of these flags are very well made and show signs of aging that can fool even savvy collectors. However, some of these flags can be easily distinguished from the originals by their different shape.

The identifying features are explained using two flags that are undoubtedly recognized as replicas. For this purpose, the contour of an original Lineol flag is used as a comparison.

Replica flag Mali

The representation of a Lineol flag for Mali (green-yellow-red) alone should make the viewer wonder. Did Lineol really produce a flag for such an exotic country and is there a corresponding flag bearer. This is highly doubtful. An explanation would be perhaps that the black stripe has changed over time into a dark green. Then this would be a Belgian national flag.

However, comparison with the outline of the original Lineol flag (black line) illustrates the differences. In particular, the drape on the right edge of the flag is clearly different. Also, the upper right corner of the replica is much less rounded than the original. In addition, the flag tip on the lower right is much more pronounced on the replica than on the original. Another distinguishing feature is the embossing of the drapery. A comparison with two original flags shows that they can be laid almost perfectly on top of each other. A comparison with the replica flag shows the difference. Even if the flags have been bent over time due to external influences, uniform embossing is recognizable in original flags in contrast to replicas.

Replica flag Bulgaria

The outline of this replica flag resembles the original Lineol flag much better. However, there are some differences here as well that make identification easier. The upper right corner of the flag is clearly curved upwards and also less rounded than the original.

However, the shape can be identified. The replica flag has a bulge at the top. The lower flag tip is also significantly narrower in shape than the original Lineol flag.

Traces of use replicas Lineol

Noticeable are the traces of use on the two present flags. These look as if after painting, the paint was removed again with fine sandpaper at the edges to feign some aging. However, this type of wear is rather unusual for Lineol flags. It is more common for Lineol flags to have the paint flaking off in pieces - even from the center of the flag cloth - because the paint adheres poorly to the aluminum sheet.

Fakes

Some of the replica flags are very well done and can definitely complement the original figure. This is especially true when talking about extremely rare, and hardly findable specimens. We speak of fakes only when well-done replica flags are sold to non-expert collectors as originals!
